Our
Place
Our
small 6 Ha (16 acre) farm/orchard has around 400 mature chestnut trees
and we run a few ewes and lambs, a few cows and calves and chooks. Guests
are welcome to look around as long as they leave things as they find them.
We have large gardens and, being on a ridge, have extensive views over
the gardens, orchard, farmland, Whangamarino Wetlands, Lake Waikare, surrounding
hills and Te Kauwhata township. Petanque and croquet sets are available
for guest use.
The accommodation is flexible:
The
Super-King room can either have a massive super-king bed or two
king-single beds. A comfortable single trundler bed is available too.
This room has an en-suite including a spa bath with shower. TV, radio
and tea/coffee making facilities are also included.
The Queen room,
as well as a queen bed, has a comfortable single trundle bed. It now has
it's own en-suite bathroom with toilet, vanity and shower. The room has
TV, radio and a small desk and library of interesting books. Tea and coffee
making facilities are always available in the kitchen across the hallway.
Both rooms have exterior doors so that you can come and go as you please.
Garage parking is available.
Continental breakfast is included
in the tariff and can be upgraded to a full cooked breakfast for a small
extra cost.
A three (+) course dinner (nibbles
and a drink before, entrée, main course with a glass of wine, dessert
and tea/coffee) is available for an extra NZ$40 per person if notified
in advance.
Meals are also available nearby at Rangiriri Tavern (every night), City
Deli Café (Fri night) and Te Kauwhata Tavern (Fri & Sat night),
Muddy Waters Irish Pub at Mercer (every night) and the Old Court House
in Huntly (Wed to Sun nights).
Attractions
Close by are Te Kauwhata Village, Rangiriri historic site, Whangamarino
Wetlands, a winery, a beautiful golf course, the Hampton Downs Motorsports
Park and Showfields Equestrian Arena.
Your hosts, Janet & John Free
have lived in the district for more than 25 years (John being originally
from England and Janet from The States) and have a wealth of knowledge
of the area (and New Zealand in general) which we are happy to share with
you, if you are interested. You are welcome to join us at our table for
meals (we hope you will) but we also will respect your privacy if you
wish to keep to yourselves and eat in your room. The decision is yours.
Our home is a smoke-free
environment but there are covered, sheltered outdoor areas for
those who wish to smoke.
We look forward to hearing from you.
